Taman Pustaka: Menyemai Minat Baca Lewat Lapak Baca Gratis

Taman Pustaka adalah sebuah konsep inovatif yang menggabungkan perpustakaan dengan taman rekreasi, untuk meningkatkan minat baca masyarakat. Perpustakaan Saraswati Pustaka yang dikelola oleh SMA Negeri 1 Mejayan berinisiatif membuka lapak baca gratis atau yang disebut dengan Taman Pustaka. Kegiatan ini bertempat di Alun-Alun Caruban, setiap hari Minggu, bersamaan dengan kegiatan Caruban Fun Day (CFD). Taman Pustaka ini resmi beroperasi sejak tanggal 14 Juli 2024. Pemilihan Alun-Alun Caruban sebagai lokasi Taman Pustaka, didasari oleh lokasinya yang strategis dan ramai pengunjung, terutama saat kegiatan CFD. Lokasinya yang dekat dengan sekolah juga menjadi pertimbangan, sehingga akses untuk membuka Taman Pustaka ini menjadi lebih mudah. 

Inisiatif ini menarik perhatian dari berbagai kalangan untuk menikmati aktivitas membaca buku di ruang terbuka. Selain membuka lapak baca gratis, anak-anak juga dapat menikmati berbagai permainan seru yang sudah disediakan. Menurut Bapak Erens Levian Rahman M. Pd., selaku guru pembina pada kegiatan ini, ide untuk mendirikan Taman Pustaka ini bermula dari rapat yang melibatkan Kepala Sekolah dan para guru dalam rangka persiapan pengajuan akreditasi perpustakaan. Dalam forum tersebut, beberapa mengusulkan untuk membuka stan baca gratis di Alun-Alun Caruban, bersamaan dengan kegiatan CFD. Usulan tersebut diterima dan disepakati, mengingat cukup banyak koleksi buku di perpustakaan yang bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai akses bacaan gratis untuk berbagai usia. 

Kegiatan Taman Pustaka ini mendapatkan dukungan dan kontribusi dari berbagai pihak yang sangat antusias. Tidak hanya guru yang berperan sebagai pembina dan pengarah, tetapi juga siswa yang tergabung dalam kelompok literasi “Saraswati Pustaka” yang ada di SMA Negeri 1 Mejayan. Para siswa bertugas memilih buku yang menarik, serta mengajak masyarakat untuk membaca buku. Tidak hanya itu, para siswa juga berperan dalam berbagai kegiatan seperti membacakan dongeng dan memandu anak-anak bermain game yang menarik dan edukatif. Hal ini menjadi salah satu cara efektif menumbuhkan minat baca sejak dini. Partisipasi aktif dari siswa bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan kecintaan mereka terhadap dunia literasi dan membangun keterampilan sosial melalui interaksi dengan pengunjung. Keterlibatan aktif dari kelompok literasi ini juga menunjukan sinergi yang kuat antara guru dan siswa dalam upaya membudayakan gerakan literasi. 

Perpustakaan sekolah tidak hanya berfokus pada kegiatan Eksternal. Kegiatan internal yang direncanakan oleh perpustakaan mencangkup bedah buku, diskusi bersama, menonton film edukatif, dan lain sebagainya. Selain itu, pihak perpustakaan juga berencana mengadakan pelatihan mendongeng bagi siswa dengan menghadirkan pemateri dari luar yang ahli dalam bidang mendongeng. Beberapa kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan minat siswa maupun masyarakat sekitar di bidang literasi. Kegiatan ini adalah contoh nyata bagaimana kerjasama dan ide kreatif dapat menghasilkan program-program yang bermanfaat bagi masyarakat untuk mendukung perkembangan literasi.
